A good lesson starts with a good goal. In teaching, this goal is called outcome: a sentence that expresses, in an observable and measurable way, what the student will be able to do at the end of the lesson. "Students learn fractions" is not an outcome, because "learning" cannot be observed; "The student adds two fractions by equalizing their denominators" is an achievement because you can see and measure what he can do. In this unit we will use AI to produce an aligned lesson plan draft from start to finish, starting from acquisition. The limit is the same: AI produces draft plans; It is up to the teacher to verify whether the outcome fits the official curriculum and the reality of the classroom.

How to write gain? Bloom taxonomy

Bloom's taxonomy is a map that lists thought processes in six levels, from simple to complex: remembering (remembering information), understanding (explaining in one's own words), application (using information in a new situation), analysis (breaking down into parts and establishing relationships), evaluation (judging by criteria), creation (producing a new whole). Each level has its own action verbs: “lists, definitions” for remembering; for application "calculates, solves"; for analysis "compares, distinguishes"; "designs, produces" for creation.

Writing the outcome with the correct verb both clarifies the level of thinking you are aiming for and aligns it with measurement. If your outcome is at the "analysis" level, asking "list" in the exam contradicts the goal. Specifying this level when asking a question or activity from the AI ​​is the key to getting useful output.

Tip: Write the outcome in the form "Student ... -ir/-ar" with a single observable verb. Divide the two-task outcome (“explain and design”) into two; becomes easier to measure.

Skeleton of a lesson plan

The classic course flow is in three parts. Introduction (getting attention, probing for prior knowledge, sharing the goal) typically takes 15-20% of the time. Development (presentation of new content, examples, activity, implementation) is the longest part, ~60-70%. Conclusion (summarization, evaluation, closing) is ~15%. In a good plan, every activity depends on a gain; "Nice but empty" activities that are unrelated to the outcome are removed from the plan.

AI fills out this skeleton quickly, but you need to check two things: (1) does the total time exceed the class hour — AI often crams 55 minutes of activity into 40 minutes; (2) do the activities really serve the achievement or are they just "filler"?

Step by step: Lesson plan with AI

  1. Clarify the gain. Take the outcome from the official curriculum or write it by specifying the Bloom level.
  2. Give the context. Class level, duration, number of students, available materials (projection, tablet, board only).
  3. Request the draft. Introduction-development-conclusion, time distribution, each activity depends on the outcome.
  4. Add the time manually. Check if the total of minutes fits into the lesson time.
  5. Check alignment. Does every activity serve my gain? Remove those who don't.
  6. Add differentiation and evaluation. Note for the struggling/advanced student; A brief check measuring the gain.
  7. Verify the facts. Every information, example, date in the plan is confirmed with a reliable source.

Case 1 — Duration realism. A math teacher asked the AI ​​for a 40-minute "addition of fractions" plan. Case 3 — Curriculum confirmation. A classroom teacher received a life science plan from AI; The plan was good, but one of its outcomes was actually from the curriculum of an upper class. The teacher compared it with the official curriculum and removed that part. AI produced general accuracy, but the teacher confirmed the information "which outcome is in which grade" from the official source.

Common mistakes

  • Not checking the time. AI frequently produces plans that exceed classroom time; verify the total manually.
  • Activity misaligned with gain. Activities that are fun but do not serve gain consume time.
  • Wrong Bloom level. Putting a recall activity in the analysis outcome misses the mark.
