No matter how good a project is, it won't get across unless it is explained well. The most powerful tool of communication in architecture is visual: rendering (transforming a three-dimensional model into a realistic picture), sheet (the page that presents project information in an orderly manner) and presentation narrative. Artificial intelligence helps in this area in two ways: rendering improvement, style transfer and atmosphere enrichment on the visual side; concept narrative, sheet text and presentation writing on the text side. But a visual power is also a responsibility: a misleading rendering creates an unrealized expectation in the customer. In this unit you will learn how to use AI powerfully and honestly in presentation and visualization.

Two roles of AI in visualization

The first role is visual enhancement. If you have a raw render from your 3D model, AI tools can enhance it: add skies, plants, human figures, atmosphere; can enlarge a low-resolution image (upscaling); can turn a sketch into a rendered atmosphere (style transfer). This cuts down on hours of post-production work.

The second role is text and layout. A concept narrative (“how this building speaks to the land”), a layout title text, a pitch, a competition report; AI quickly produces drafts of these and strengthens their language.

The critical distinction is this: AI visual can enhance the atmosphere, but it should not change reality. Adding a floor that doesn't exist, putting in an unreal view, exaggerating the scale crosses the line of honesty.

Attention: The visual presented to the customer must reflect the reality of the project. Atmosphere (light, vegetation, people) added by AI is acceptable; however, non-existent floor, unreal view, or exaggerated scale is misleading and unethical.

Improving your own rendering etc. produce from scratch

There is an important difference. It is safe to enhance the rendering from your own 3D model with AI; because the geometry comes from your actual project, AI just adds atmosphere. In contrast, generating images from text from scratch (Unit 2) is a concept exercise and its geometry is unreliable. Don't confuse the two at the presentation stage: actual project images should come from your model, while concept images should be clearly labeled "concept".

Step by step: AI-powered presentation preparation

  1. Clarify the narrative. What is the main idea of ​​the project in one sentence?
  2. Establish your visual hierarchy. Which visual will tell what: approach, interior, detail.
  3. Get renders from the model. Let the real geometry come from your model.
  4. Improve atmosphere with AI. Light, environment, resolution; without distorting the truth.
  5. Write text with AI. Concept narrative, sheet text, presentation speech draft.
  6. Honesty check. Review each image to see if it reflects reality.
  7. Consistency and language control. Are the terms, scales, names consistent?
Tip: Don't use the concept narrative you wrote with AI as is; There may be general/cliché sentences that do not belong to the project. Compare it to your own design intent and leave only truly valid claims.

three mini cases

Case 1 — Post-processing acceleration. One office does AI post-processing of 12 renders: adding sky, tree, human figure. What used to take about 2 hours per render manually is reduced to 20 minutes per render; With 12 images, it drops from approximately 20 hours to 4 hours. Because the geometry comes from the model, reality is preserved.

Case 2 — Misleading visual border. An architect uses AI to add a non-existent panoramic sea view to an interior rendering. The project actually overlooks the inner courtyard. When the customer sees the difference at the contract stage, trust is damaged. Lesson: atmosphere can be manipulated, reality cannot be changed.

Case 3 — Concept narrative refinement. AI writes a fluent text for the competition report, but it contains claims such as "innovative biophilic design" that have no counterpart in the project. The architect strips away these claims, leaving only the design decisions that were actually implemented. The text becomes both honest and powerful.

Common mistakes

  • Image that distorts reality. Adding non-existent views/floors.
  • Mixing the concept and the project visual. The two should be labeled separately.
  • Using AI text as is. Cliché/false claims must be cleared.
  • Scale-breaking optimization. People/furniture must keep to scale.
  • Inconsistent term and name. Language should be consistent throughout the presentation.

In summary

AI is a powerful tool that speeds up rendering post-processing and presentation text. It's safe to enhance renders from your own model with atmosphere; but distorting reality (nonexistent landscape, exaggerated scale) is unethical. Separate concept images from project images, remove clichés and unsubstantiated claims from AI-written text, and always deliver factual, honest images to the customer.

Application task

Write an atmosphere enhancement plan with AI for a render (or sample image); Separate interventions that do not distort reality from those that do.
