Every skill we've learned so far — visual production, moodboard, logo concept, brand language, layout, social media suite, copyright awareness — creates value not individually, but when put together in a workflow. In this unit, we will learn how to integrate AI from start to finish (from briefing to delivery) of a design project. The aim is to position AI not as a separate “toy” but as a natural part of the existing design process. The unchanging principle: AI accelerates, designer manages and approves.
Design tool ecosystem (categories)
The market changes rapidly; That's why it's healthier to think of a category instead of memorizing the brand name:
- Image generators: Tools that generate images from text (image AI). For discovery, background, illustration.
- Vector/design programs: For logos, layouts and editable text (the main professional tools for vector illustration and page design).
- Photo/raster editors: Fine-tuning, retouching, inpainting, background removal.
- AI plug-ins: AI features embedded within design programs (object removal, expansion, generative filling).
- Assistive AI: Chat tools that generate text/ideas (brief analysis, concept, text, checklist).
- Organizational tools: Moodboard, file management, customer approval/feedback platforms.
In a healthy flow, these work in a chain: you think with the assistant AI, explore with the visual generator, mature it in the design program, clean it with the editor.
Tip: Before hiring a new tool, ask three questions: (1) does it have a commercial license, (2) is it data privacy safe, (3) does it output in an editable format? If these three don't fit, don't let it enter your vehicle flow.
File formats and delivery standard
An often overlooked but critical part of a professional workflow is delivery with the correct file formats. AI images are generally raster (JPG/PNG); but professional delivery often requires different formats. It is necessary to know the basic distinctions: PNG when a transparent background is required (logo, icon) and sharp edges; JPG is used for photographic images and when small file size is required; SVG/vector logos and icons (infinitely enlargeable, print-proof); For multi-page jobs that will go to PDF printing; The source file (the design program's own format) is for the customer to edit in the future. Resolution also depends on the format: 72 PPI is sufficient for display, while 300 PPI is usually required for printing. If you are going to take your AI image to large print, check that the production resolution is sufficient; Use an upscale tool if necessary, but remember that upscaling also magnifies defects. Briefly explaining to the customer on delivery which file to use and where (e.g. "Use PNG for web, PDF for print") demonstrates professionalism and prevents quality problems caused by misuse.
End-to-end flow: 8 stages
- Solve the brief: What the customer wants, target audience, message, constraints, deliverables. With AI, summarize the brief and remove missing questions.
- Discovery and direction: Moodboard and direction statements; Provide 2-3 visual directions.
- Concept: Logo/key visual ideas in the chosen direction; rough visualization.
- System: Palette, typography, tone; prompt pattern.
- Production: Produce images, mature them through iteration (seed, inpainting).
- Layout: Text, alignment, format duplication in the design program.
- Quality and copyright control: Defect scanning, similarity check, licensing, conversion.
- Delivery and archive: Accurate formats, source files, recording and transparency.
At each stage, AI plays a different role, but the decision is always with the designer.
Efficiency but control: the right balance
When production speeds up too much with AI, a trap arises: sacrificing control to speed. It is very easy to produce visuals; but if each is not inspected for defects, similarity and brand compatibility, speed becomes a burden. The right balance: Use AI generously in discovery and drafting, and rigorously in pre-delivery inspection. Another source of efficiency is to build a library of templates and patterns: collect your frequently used prompt patterns, layout templates, checklists in one place; Do not start from scratch on every project.
three mini cases
Case 1 — End-to-end speed. A freelancer normally delivered the identity + social set work of a small brand in 3 weeks. When we integrated AI into the eight-stage flow (AI in discovery and drafting, itself in layout and inspection), the time decreased to ~10 days. He devoted the saved time to customer relations and extra revision; The job came again.
Case 2 — Uncontrolled speed error. One team got caught up in rapid production and sent 40 images for approval without checking them; There were defects in 5 cases, similarity risks in 2 cases, and customer trust was shaken. Added "pre-delivery inspection gate" to the flow: no visual defects/similarity/license checks go through for approval. Error rate dropped.
Case 3 — Pattern library. An agency was writing prompts from scratch each time for recurring work. Established a prompt pattern and template library on a brand basis; new post preparation time has been cut in half and consistency has increased. New team members also adapted quickly.

Common mistakes
- Sacrificing control to speed: Producing more and controlling less; Pre-delivery inspection door is a must.
- Taking tools without question: Streaming them without checking license, confidentiality and format compliance.
- Starting every project from scratch: Not establishing a mold and template library; reduce efficiency.
